Browsing our website

When you visit our website, we collect basic technical information necessary to:

1. Maintain the connection with and functionality of your browser,
2. Ensure the proper operation of our systems, and
3. Recognize abuses such as attempts to gain improper access to our servers.

This includes:

• The IP address you're using to access our site,
• Which browser and operating system you're using,
• The pages you view while accessing our site, and
• The timestamps of your visit.

Our server places session cookies on your device related to this technical information.
We do not use persistent cookies, tracking cookies, analytics, web pixels/beacons, or JavaScript-based trackers. There is no advertising on our website. However, links to other charitable and governmental organizations are provided; if you click those links, the destination site may collect your referral data.

No human at AMMCO views this technical information unless needed for troubleshooting. We do not identify, track, or profile users.

Mobile Application: Siren

We also operate a mobile application called Siren. When you use Siren, we collect the following personal data:

• GPS location data, including when the app is running in the background, to support field patrol activities (such as tracking patrol routes and durations),
• Email address,
• Phone number, and
• Name.

This information is collected strictly for purposes related to our marine conservation activities. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties, except internally within AMMCO's staff, volunteers, and support network necessary to operate our programs.

You can control location permissions at any time through your device settings. However, disabling location access may limit the patrol functionality of the app.

We implement reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your personal data.

Contacting us

If you communicate with us via the "Contact Us" page or otherwise, we retain your communications and personal information (name, email address, phone number, etc.) for administrative purposes.

• We do not sell or share your personal information externally.
• If you do not enter into a business, volunteer, or project relationship with us, you may request that we delete your personal information.
• Otherwise, we will retain this information for ongoing administrative purposes without a fixed deletion schedule.

Because we are a charitable organization and not a commercial enterprise, your communications are not treated as legally confidential. Nevertheless, we apply our best efforts to secure your data once stored on our servers.

Jurisdiction and Applicable Law

AMMCO is based in Cameroon, and Cameroon law governs your use of this website, the Siren app, and this privacy policy.

Our volunteers and users come from all over the world, but we do not intentionally target users from any particular country.

California Residents

Pursuant to California Civil Code §1798.140(d)(1), AMMCO is exempt from the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Residents of the European Economic Area (EEA)

We do not intentionally target individuals in the EEA. Accordingly, under the GDPR territorial scope rules (EDPB Guidelines 3/2018, v2.1), we are exempt from direct GDPR obligations. GDPR Articles 14(5)(a), 14(5)(b), and 27(2) apply.

Nonetheless, we voluntarily align our data practices with key privacy principles of transparency, data minimization, security, and user control.
